My Story: From Military Discipline to Building The Uncommon Life
Who I Am, Where I’ve Been, and Why I Created The Uncommon Life
If we were meeting for the first time, and you asked me who I am, I could give you the usual answers:
“I’m David Webb.”
“From the UK.”
“Ex-military, ex-semi-pro footballer.”
“Now a Life Transformation coach in Dubai.”
And while all of that is true… it’s not the real story.
The real story is about pressure, applause, breakdowns, and rebuilding.
It’s about learning the hard way that performing isn’t the same as living.
And it’s about why I created The Uncommon Life.
So let me take you back to the beginning.
"The Golden Boy"
From as early as I can remember, I was “the golden boy.”
At eight years old, I was in the newspaper for winning motocross championships (yep, here’s the article).
Motocross was my whole world. I’d leave school early on Fridays, load the van with my dad, and we’d race all weekend across the country. I loved the speed, the focus, the feeling of flying over jumps.
But there was also pressure. A lot of it.
I built my whole identity on being the one who won. If I came second, it wasn’t enough.
My parents had sacrificed so much to support me, and I’m deeply grateful for that. But it also set a standard in me: if I wasn’t achieving, I wasn’t valuable.
I placed this pressure upon myself because I wanted to make them proud, what child doesn't want that.
That applause, that external validation — it became my fuel.
And for a while, it worked.
The Soldier & The Machine
At 18, I joined the British Armed Forces.
And suddenly, my “golden boy” identity found the perfect environment to thrive.
From day one, I was molded into the perfect yes-man. Do the task. Hit the standard. Make it happen.
I became a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) — one of the most respected roles in the RAF. My job was to keep soldiers fit to deploy and coach performance at every level — from raw recruits to 4-star generals.
On top of that, I represented the RAF and UK Armed Forces football teams. To many, I lived like a professional athlete inside the military.
I completed the SERE course — Survive, Evade, Resist, Extract.
It’s designed to prepare soldiers for the worst-case scenario: cut off behind enemy lines, hunted, or captured.
You learn to survive off the land, evade capture, resist interrogation, and extract yourself under extreme pressure.
It was brutal — cold, hungry, and mentally exhausting. But more than anything, it taught me clarity under chaos and resilience when everything in you wants to quit.
I also completed the ACP (Aircrew Conditioning Package) — training for the nightmare scenario of an aircraft going down over water. I’ll never forget being dragged under in the English Channel simulator, having to cut myself free from the cords. It took me multiple attempts, each one harder than the last. But eventually, I broke through.
It was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done. But it taught me something I carry to this day: resilience doesn’t come from being fearless. It comes from facing fear again and again, until you get through it.
These experiences shaped me — but they also hardened me. I was praised for being “the machine.” The one who never stopped. The one who pushed through everything.
And yet, the more I performed, the less alive I felt.
When Covid stripped away my regimented structure, I realised how fragile I really was. Without the system, I crumbled. No flexibility. No resilience for life itself.
That was the first time I thought: maybe this isn’t strength… maybe it’s a cage.
My First Business: The Seed of Passion
Alongside the military, I started a side business in fitness.
People would ask me, “Dave, how do you train? Can you make me a program?”
So I did.
By 22, I was in peak physical condition (here’s a snapshot).
But inside, I still felt like it wasn’t enough.
Then came my first real client transformation (see the post).
Watching someone else’s confidence grow, seeing them stand taller, smile bigger — it lit me up in a way winning trophies never did.
That was the seed of what would become The Uncommon Life.
Awakening the Mind (and Eventually, the Spirit)
The cracks deepened. I needed answers.
So I turned inward.
I studied NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), devoured Tony Robbins, Bruce Lipton, Joe Dispenza, Wim Hof. I started breathwork, ice baths, journaling.
My performance went to a new level — mentally sharper, more resilient, more capable.
But spiritually, I was still starving.
That’s when meditation, mindfulness, and The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer cracked me open.
That book shifted me more than anything else.
I began to see: the only moment we ever truly have is this one.
Not the past (it’s gone).
Not the future (it’s not guaranteed).
Just now.
I realised the universe doesn’t give you what you want. It gives you more of who you are.
So I stopped chasing butterflies.
And started building the garden.
That’s when everything changed.
The Leap: Dubai
After nine years, my boss asked me a question I’ll never forget:
“You’re 70 years old, telling your life story to your grandkids. What do you say?”
And I froze.
Because if I was honest, I’d just been living the same year on repeat.
Wake up. Train. Work. Perform. Sleep.
Repeat.
I knew something had to change.
So I left.
I walked away from the military.
I left the identity I’d carried for nearly a decade.
And I risked it all to move to Dubai.
It was terrifying.
Starting from scratch, no safety net, no guarantees.
But it was also the best decision of my life.
Because in Dubai, I rebuilt. Not as the soldier. Not as the machine. But as me.
And it’s where I met my wife — the woman who grounded me in love, presence, and connection.
The best thing about relationships I have realised is the best ones happen when you least expect it, when you are not looking.
I told myself for so long "i'm better off alone" that I pushed everyone away but that's because I didn't love myself and 'subconsciously' thought how can anyone love me.
The truth is that you cannot love, or be loved by anyone else until you love yourself
This is when the magic happened and my wife appeared. I wasn't searching, looking or craving
I was truly being my authentic self, appreciating that I will attract some and repel others and either way I was ok.
I'm truly grateful to have this special person by my side to love, challenge, support and love me unconditionally and that is also out there for you as well, if you haven't already been blessed with it.
The Football Dream
One dream I thought had passed me by was professional football.
But in Dubai, I gave it one more shot.
In three years, I earned three promotions with three different clubs: Gulf United, Fleetwood United, and Al Qabila FC.
For me, it wasn’t about applause anymore.
It was about proving to myself that I could create from alignment, not just ambition.
Coaching, Corporate & The Movement
While football reignited my passion, coaching became my mission.
What began with individuals soon expanded into companies and communities.
And here’s what I’ve learned:
👉 The real transformation doesn’t come from creating better professionals. It comes from creating better humans.
When people feel alive, clear, and grounded in themselves — they naturally perform better. They show up to work more engaged, more connected, more inspired. And companies thrive as a result.
That’s why The Uncommon Life has grown beyond personal coaching into corporate culture change.
I’ve worked with some of the biggest brands and organisations in the Middle East and beyond, including:
lululemon Ambassador (Corporate & Community Wellbeing)
Reference David Webb / The Uncommon Life (City Walk Store - Dubai)
Whoop Ambassador (Performance Optimization)
Discount Code: Free Month
Kcal Ambassador (Nutrition & Lifestyle Support)
DM / Reply "kcal" for code
Nutrili Ambassador (Wellness & Biohacking)
Discount Code: 10% Off
Flow Space Ambassador (Mental Fitness & Nervous System Education)

from a brand collaboration perspective and the following companies on a culture transformation level.
Majid Al Futtaim (Lifestyle Group)
Arabian Estates (Real Estate)
haus & haus (Real Estate)
The best thing about it, I’ve watched something beautiful happen:
When people reconnect to themselves — their energy, their awareness, their truth — they don’t just become better at their jobs.
They become better partners. Better leaders. Better friends. Better humans.
That ripple effect has transformed both companies and lives.
The Uncommon Life
So what is The Uncommon Life?
It’s not a brand.
It’s not a program.
It’s a way of living.
Built on four progressions:
Mental: Clarity, focus, awareness.
Physical: Strength, energy, longevity, recovery
Spiritual: Presence, intuition, connection.
Lifestyle: Days designed to feel like you.
And anchored in one framework:
Awareness → Action → Alignment.
Because here’s what I know now:
The more I performed, the less happy I was.
Every decision we make is because we believe it will make us happier.
But happiness doesn’t come from what you achieve.
It comes from within.
Imagine not needing anything to feel happy, excited, and grateful about life.
Imagine how much freer you’d feel.
How much more yourself you could be.
How much more the world would get to see the real you.
That’s the power of The Uncommon Life.
My Calling
The “common life” normalises anxiety, stress, burnout, quick fixes.
But that’s not normal. That’s sick.
Every year, more than 720,000 people die by suicide globally — nearly one person every 43 seconds — and suicide is currently the third leading cause of death among 15–29-year-olds.

The Uncommon Life is about empowering humans to create their own reality. To raise their own standards. To build their life — not the one they were handed.
Because your life is uncommon.
It’s yours.
And it’s time to live it.
